What makes Nuscle different from a regular protein?

Nuscle is the first vegan EAA-enriched clear protein — designed to be a juice-style, all-natural ingredients and gut-friendly alternative to thick shakes.

It's complete with all 9 EAAs in a patent-pending ratio, fast absorption and high digestibility from extended hydrolysation. On top of that, it has an EAA content that's over 50% higher than whey. This is a big advantage over most other plant or animal proteins, which digest slowly, have lower bioavailability, and are often incomplete or are low in EAAs.

Unlike traditional shakes, it's also a juice-style clear protein — mixing with water like a juice or sports drink rather than a thick, milky shake. It's lighter, easier to drink, and doesn't cause the bloating many people get from dairy or other plant proteins.

Is it suitable for vegans?

Yes, completely. The protein comes from hydrolysed pea and rice — no animal-derived products, no dairy, no leftover hormones.

Is it suitable for ketogenic diets?

Yes, definitely. Nuscle is high protein and has only trace amounts of sugars.

Does it cause bloating or digestive issues?

We have team members with sensitive stomachs, so we've made sure to formulate Nuscle in a gut-friendly way.

There are no sugar-alcohols, artificial additives, FODMAPs, or other fermentable fibres or starches in Nuscle. The protein base is pre-broken down through hydrolysis to make it less heavy for the digestive system.

However, if you have a protein sensitivity, if you experience any symptoms, or are concerned, then please see your doctor.

How much protein is in each dose?

Each single dose (13.5g) contains 10g of essential amino acid-enriched complete protein with a 70% EAA content, designed to match the effectiveness of 15g of whey.

Each double dose (27g) contains 20g of essential amino acid-enriched complete protein with a 70% EAA content, large enough to maximally stimulate muscle protein responses, even in resistant populations such as those who are aging or excessively stressed.

To put that into perspective, 100% protein content , whey, pea, hemp and collagen proteins contain 40%, 30%, 27%, and 16% EAA content respectively. And most unhydrolysed proteins are 60-90% protein content!

Can I use it if I take other supplements?

Yes. There are no ingredients in Nuscle that risk over-supplementation or commonly interact with regular supplements.

If you're concerned, as with any supplement, we would advise checking with your GP first.

How should I store it and how long does it last once opened?

Store it in a cool, dry place with the pouch zipper tightly closed. Once opened, keep the pouch sealed fully and ideally use it within 3 months for the best freshness and taste.

What are EAAs and why are they added?

In short, essential amino acids (EAAs) are the nine amino acids your body can't produce on its own. They're the signals and building blocks your muscles need for repair and growth.

Adding them directly to create enriched protein means we can get the many benefits of both fast-digesting EAAs and whole proteins.

This way we can increase total EAA content, build a more effective and balanced EAA profile, and curate amino acid ratios to ensure benefits are maximised for a range of ages, lifestyles and health states.

What is hydrolysed protein and why is it used?

Hydrolysis is the natural enzymatic breakdown of proteins into smaller protein peptides that occurs in our digestive system.

This significantly increases solubility, absorption speed, and bioavailability. On its own this has limited use, but when combined with EAA-enrichment it allows more amino acids to be absorbed and utilised in a more controlled timeframe over the 3-hour muscle window after consumption.

Hydrolysis also produces bioactive peptides that are being investigated for their potent biological effects on our bodies — this is why people buy hydrolysed collagen peptides, although collagen is an incredibly weak poor protein source overall.

Are there any artificial additives?

Every ingredient in Nuscle is naturally-occurring and non-artificial. There is no added sugar, only natural trace amounts.

More than 300 different artificial sweeteners, flavours, preservatives, emulsifiers and other additives are commonly used in supplements, from big and small brands alike. We shouldn't have to consume them to get maximum benefit from a protein.

Are there any sugars?

There are only trace sugars in Nuscle, existing residually as part of other ingredients like natural flavouring extracts.

Is it allergen-free?

Nuscle is made to be suitable for many people, but allergen status depends on batch-testing and factory handling.

Does it contain any stimulants or banned substances?

No, Nuscle is not formulated as a stimulant product. It does not contain caffeine or other typical pre-workout stimulants, and it's designed as a clean protein drink rather than an energy product.

Taking EAA and protein supplements, like Nuscle, during hard or long workouts is purely about muscle support. Their role is to reduce muscle damage, muscle loss, and speed recovery.

Timing and Dosage

When do I take it?

There are five big uses we intended for Nuscle:

Meal/snack-top-ups: One dose to significantly enhance the effectiveness of an incomplete, poor protein-quality or low protein meal.

Between meal snacks: One dose in the long breaks between main meals to provide a robust muscle signal, then clear from the blood and let muscles reset before you get something to eat.

During workouts: One dose to raise muscle protein balance and protect from muscle breakdown during intense and extended training.

After workouts: Two doses to maximise post-workout muscle synthesis preservation for those 3 hours before your muscles close the doors and reset.

Before bed: Two doses to maximise uptake of essential amino acids in muscles in the first 3 hours, providing sustained repair and preservation for the rest of the night.

Generally we recommend forming consistently healthy habits by generally using Nuscle at the same times regularly, like topping up your breakfast, filling that lunch-dinner gap, or just after every workout.

It's always worth considering that the mornings and evenings are generally the most predictable times of day!

Can I take it on rest days, does it still help?

Yes, if you're taking Nuscle to support exercise, then rest days are just as important as exercise.

Your body continues to recover and rebuild on non-training days, so using a high-quality protein supplement is a powerful way to support your daily protein intake, recovery and muscle development.

Can I use it as a meal replacement?

No, Nuscle isn't intended to replace a full meal. We wanted to create the most effective protein drink, so we avoided cramming potentially useless nutrients in, which take up space and dilute Nuscle's purpose.

It works best as a protein top-up, refreshing snack, sleep nutrition or as a pre/intra/post-workout option.

Can I take it with creatine, pre-workout, or other supplements?

Yes, it can generally be taken alongside other common supplements such as creatine or pre-workout. There is nothing in Nuscle that carries risks of excessive intake.

If you have medical conditions or take medication that could be affected by high protein meals, it’s always wise to check with a qualified healthcare professional first.

How many doses can I have per day?

Most people use two to four single doses (one to two double doses) per day.

This depends on your individual protein needs, fitness goals and overall diet. You can of course adjust this based on training, meals, and your daily target.

We set a soft limit of six single doses (three double doses per day). The reason we do this isn’t a direct safety concern; it’s simply to ensure that Nuscle isn’t being used as the sole protein source in diets. As there are many other vitamins and minerals we need in our diets.

How much should I take to top-up a meal or snack?

Take a single dose (13.5g) to top-up meals, as snacks, or during workouts.

This provides an essential amino acid supply similar to 20g of whey, enough to be a robust trigger for muscle growth, preservation and recovery.

How much should I take after a workout?

Take a double dose (27g) after training or before sleep

This provides an essential amino acid supply recognised by science to maximally stimulate muscle protein response, for the biggest possible trigger for muscle growth, preservation and recovery.

How much should I take in between meals?

Take a single dose (13.5g) for muscle support, recovery and development in between meals. For between meal nutrition aim to drink Nuscle at least 3 hours from your last meal, to ensure your muscles are sensitised to absorb amino acids effectively.

This provides an essential amino acid supply similar to 20g of whey, enough to be a robust trigger for muscle growth, preservation and recovery.

Taste, Mixing and Texture

How should I mix Nuscle?

Meal top-ups, snacks between meals, and during workout: Add one scoop (13.5g) to 250–300ml of cold water in a glass, shaker or bottle. Stir, blend, shake or swirl until fully dissolved with no clumps.

After workouts and before sleep: Add two scoops (27g) to 250–300ml of cold water in a glass, shaker or bottle. Stir, blend, shake or swirl until fully dissolved with no clumps.

It's all about your preference use water to suit your taste. We formulated Nuscle to always be refreshing and never too sweet, but if you're finding it a bit too zingy then add more water for a lighter flavour.

Why is the powder itself slightly grainy?

Powders like most essential amino acids and many plant peptides naturally repel water, making them very hard to mix.

We use processes like called microencapsulation and agglomeration so that they become wet and dissolve immediately.

Agglomeration clumps very fine dusty particles into larger porous granules that let water in much more easily. This is why it feels a bit sandy between your fingers.

Why does it foam when I shake it?

Foam is normal in protein drinks because of how protein interacts with water when it's shaken, even with a natural foam control system like in Nuscle. It should settle in about 30-60 seconds, and it won’t affect any benefit from the product.

If you don't want to wait and you don't want to pour it into a glass after shaking, then here are some options:

  • Swirl it in your shaker with a rotational motion instead of shaking to minimise air disturbance
  • Stir it into water and take advantage of Nuscle's solubilised formula, it should dissolve quite easily

Can I mix it in advance and keep it in the fridge?

Though it is safe, we would advise mixing Nuscle when you want to drink it for two reasons:

  • Natural flavours can degrade in fruity drinks due to the low pH of the liquid, this is not unsafe, but over the course of hours may result in loss of flavour
  • You may also find that a certain amount of sediment starts to appear as the liquid cools down and undissolved protein settles

Why does it look cloudy — is that normal?

Yes, that’s completely normal. Nuscle is designed to be a juice-style clear protein drink, this means that it will get clearer over time, but never be fully transparent. With a high concentration of protein and deliberately varied levels of hydrolysis to sustain absorption, full transparency is almost impossible to achieve.

Can I mix it with ice, fruit juices or sparkling waters?

Yes, you can. Ice works well, and fruit juice or sparkling water can be used if you want a different flavour experience, though water is usually the best option for the cleanest taste and texture. Or throw it into your next smoothie like us!

Why does it taste different to a regular protein shake?

Nuscle is a juice-style clear protein drink, not a creamy shake. The texture is lighter, the finish is cleaner, and the flavour profile is designed to be refreshing rather than rich.

We've avoided the classic sweetener overload you find in most protein drinks and gone down a fresher, more zingy route, like fruit squash! This creates a balanced fruity flavour profile to mask any lingering ingredient tastes.

Can I change or cancel my order after placing it?

We process orders quickly, so please contact us as soon as possible if you need to cancel or make a change. If your order has not yet been dispatched, we will do our best to help. Once it has shipped, we're usually unable to make changes.

Can I change or cancel my subscription after placing it?

To make a change to your subscription just head to our subscription portal by logging into your account.

There you can make changes to your subscription flavour and quantity, as well as pause and cancel your subscription.

We usually dispatch subscription renewals two days before payment is taken to ensure it gets to you on time, so please bear that in mind when making changes.

I haven't received an order confirmation email or another email — what should I do?

Check your spam or junk folder first. If it's not there, contact us with your name and email address and we'll look into it straight away.

Can I pause or skip a delivery?

Yes. You can pause or skip an upcoming delivery at any time from the customer portal in your account. We recommend doing this at least 48 hours before your next renewal date.

How do I track my order?

Your tracking number and link should be emailed to you after dispatch, in that email you will find instructions on how to track your order.

My order hasn't arrived — what should I do?

What are essential amino acids (EAAs), and why do they matter?

Essential amino acids are the 9 building blocks your body needs but cannot make itself. They are used to make non-essential amino acids, proteins and many other critical materials your body uses to maintain tissues and grow.

In muscle tissue they have one of their largest roles. They signal the processes and dictate the speeds of muscle protein synthesis and muscle protein breakdown. They are the processes by which your body maintains, repairs and rebuilds muscle.

What does EAA-enriched mean?

EAA-enriched means fortification with essential amino acids, which are the amino acids your body cannot produce on its own and must get from food or supplements.

The specific essential amino acid profile and content of the protein base will be taken into account, then fortified with good-quality, often solubilised, free EAAs to bring the protein base up to the desired EAA content and specific ratio.

This allows a formulation to plug gaps in EAA profiles, boost overall EAA content, and raise protein quality. It has long been known that the supply of essential amino acids in a protein is the component that does the heavy lifting.

We think it's about time that the nutrition industry replaces huge volumes of ineffective low quality proteins, with smaller volumes of high-quality proteins.

What is muscle protein response?

In broad terms the muscle protein response describes how skeletal muscle adapts, and repairs in response to exercise and nutrition

In supplement terms, it's how your muscles react to eating protein.

When you eat protein, your body breaks it down into amino acids. The levels of the 9 essential amino acids (EAA) that enter your blood then trigger two processes: building new muscle tissue (synthesis) and slowing muscle breakdown.

The speed and effect of these processes depends on the level of EAA abundance in the blood — effectively how many building blocks are available in the right ratio.

What is an essential amino acid threshold?

Your body doesn't just need essential amino acids for muscle support, it needs them to create proteins and amino acids for many other crucial bodily processes.

Our bodies have EAA thresholds to signal amino acid abundance. This makes sure we don't use the low stocks of EAAs that we can store for processes that aren't immediately critical to life, like heart function.

Muscle support is minimal until all blood EAA thresholds are crossed signaling abundance. Then the body knows it has loads to spare for muscle, flipping the switch for increased muscle development and repair.

How far blood levels are past these thresholds and how long they stay there determine how much muscle we build or preserve.

What is digestibility?

Not all protein reaches your muscles. Digestibility measures how much of the protein you consume actually gets broken down and absorbed — rather than passing through unused. The higher the better.

This is why digestibility can matter as much as quantity. Proteins with poor bioavailability release fewer amino acids overall, and slow-digesting proteins, like most plants and meats, release over 3-9 hours, too gradually for big EAA triggers, and much of the release occurs after muscles have stopped being responsive.

Fast-digesting hydrolysed proteins and free-form EAAs raise blood levels fast, sustain through the muscle support window, and clear efficiently — allowing the muscle to reset and respond again sooner. It's not about how much protein you take, it's about its quality and its digestibility.

What is protein quality?

Protein quality goes beyond the number of grams on the label. It describes how useful a protein actually is to the body — taking into account both its digestibility and whether it contains all the essential amino acids in effective amounts and ratios.

A high-quality protein is one the body can fully absorb and immediately use for muscle repair, growth, and recovery.

Non-milk proteins are not designed for animal consumption, so most other proteins have lower protein quality than whey, with almost all plant proteins much lower. This occurs because they lack or are low in one or more essential amino acids, and generally have lower total EAA contents — which is exactly the problem EAA enrichment is designed to solve.

Digestibility

What is a muscle support window?

When amino acids enter the bloodstream, muscle protein synthesis switches on — but only for a limited window to prevent excess muscle preservation or growth.

After around 2-3 hours of elevated blood amino acid levels, the muscle becomes temporarily unresponsive, a phenomenon known as the muscle full effect closes the window for muscle support.

More amino acids in the blood at this point simply go toward other processes, are used for energy, or stored as fat, regardless how much protein you've consumed.

What is the muscle full effect?

After eating protein our muscles close the doors and stop using up amino acids for muscle support after about 3 hours.

This is to prevent overgrowth and avoid running out of essential amino acids that our body uses for critical roles, like heart and brain tissue maintenance.

Why does Nuscle focus on EAAs instead of just total protein?

Not all protein is created equal. 20 grams of protein is not as useful from every source.

Essential amino acids are largely what makes a protein useful to the body. Proteins with low EAA contents and incomplete EAA profiles have been shown to be inferior to much smaller amounts of good quality proteins.

So we wanted to create the best quality protein. With high digestibility, a very high EAA content, an optimised EAA profile and a small supply of all other non-essential-amino acids so they can't limit muscle response during times of stress.

Total protein matters but only when you know what sort of protein quality you have. For instance protein malnutrition is widespread all over the world, even with high protein diets because of low protein quality and missing EAAs.

Is it better to use EAAs or BCAAs?

Branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) are three specific EAAs known to be particularly important in muscle growth and repair. Leucine, isoleucine and valine.

They receive a lot of marketing hype. However, a balanced profile of all nine EAAs are consistently shown in research to be better than the BCAAs for just about every outcome.

We know that all nine EAAs are required to create proteins for muscle maintenance and development. By adding just BCAAs we are actively unbalancing our EAA intake, resulting in limiting levels of other EAAs, and because of this, wasted BCAAs.

Whether you're supplementing directly or enriching proteins, EAAs are more complete and more effective for supporting muscle protein formation. Your body needs supplements that do more than just cover part of a process, and ultimately end up wasted because of it.

Why don't I just take EAAs instead of protein?

EAAs alone are fast, efficient, and complete — but alone they aren't an adequate replacement for whole or hydrolysed proteins. Here's why:

  • EAAs in isolation digest fast, which is ideal for triggering muscle support, but declines before the end of the muscle support window.
  • Regular protein sources provide slower-digesting EAAs to keep the flow of building materials going for the full window your muscles can use them. The problem is that most proteins digest so slowly that they can barely hit thresholds or use the muscle support window. That's why we use fast-digesting hydrolysed proteins in Nuscle.
  • Normal proteins signal our gut-brain axis and insulin systems to better promote amino acid absorption, efficient utilisation, and satiety.
  • Even though our body uses EAAs rapidly to produce other non-essential amino acids the presence of some non-essential amino acids can spare EAAs for protein formation and other crucial metabolic functions, connective tissue repair, and cellular processes beyond muscle protein repair and formation.

Think of EAAs as the ignition and protein as the fuel — Nuscle combines both, giving you the fast amino acid spike that triggers synthesis alongside the complete protein that sustains it for just the right amount of time.

Why does Nuscle have a more complete amino acid profile?

Nuscle is formulated to provide a broader and more balanced essential amino acid profile than other dietary proteins. In fact, most plant and meat proteins are very poor protein sources, with missing EAAs and low EAA contents. After all, plants and animals don't design themselves for humans to eat!

This helps us ensure that the EAA profile is capable of maximising muscle protein response in a range of demographics like those who are stressed, training hard or aging.

This makes Nuscle a more targeted option for people who want a protein drink with a more deliberate amino acid composition.

Why does Nuscle have a larger total EAA content?

Having all of the essential amino acids in a balanced ratio is just the first barrier for effective muscle support.

The degree of muscle response then becomes about abundance and surplus. The total EAA content is largely what determines how much protein of that source you will have to eat.

Most plant sources have low EAA contents between 15-40%. Animal-derived proteins like beef and whey are better, usually with 35-45% total EAA content.

At Nuscle our plan was to formulate the most efficient and effective protein, actually designed for human adults, whey is for new-borns, and plants aren't designed to be eaten! So our EAA content after enrichment is 70%.

Why does Nuscle digest more easily than standard plant protein?

There are many reasons why Nuscle digests more easily than standard proteins:

  • It doesn't have any dairy or gluten
  • It's hydrolysed and filtered. This means that fermentable fibres, starches, anti-nutrients and other compounds that cause issues in plant proteins are already broken down, deactivated, and in most cases removed
  • The free EAAs used for enrichment are already 100% bioavailable and digestible as they are already broken down for immediate absorption before you even drink them
  • There are no sugar-alcohol sweeteners, added gums, added fermentable compounds, or artificial ingredients that you commonly see in other protein drinks

Some of Nuscle's team have digestive concerns so we wanted to build something we could all feel comfortable using. It's intended to be easier on the stomach and easier to consume than many thicker protein powders.

How should I think about Nuscle in relation to my daily protein intake?

Think of Nuscle as a convenient way to help top up your high quality protein intake during the day. This ensures that a larger proportion of your protein intake comes from high-quality sources, known to be significantly more effective gram-for-gram compared to lower quality proteins.

It works well after training, during training, with meals, between meals, or whenever you want a lighter protein option.

Do you need other non-essential amino acids (NEAAs)?

When essential amino acids are present in abundance, the body can easily create other non-essential amino acids — so in practical terms, a complete and high-dose EAA profile covers all bases.

However, having extra non-essential amino acids in the blood helps in several ways:

  • It spares excess EAAs from being removed from the blood and used to create other amino acids, helping sustain blood EAA levels longer to keep the muscle support switch flipped.
  • Sometimes under conditions of high stress — intense training, illness, caloric restriction, or recovery — other amino acids like glutamine can be consumed faster than the body can produce them. In these states, low levels of non-essential amino acids can end up limit muscle support.

This is a big reason why Nuscle combines EAAs with fast-digesting hydrolysed protein — it delivers both a maximal dose of essential amino acids, and enough non-essential amino acids to prevent them from limiting muscle support during stress.
